Stan

This morning’s assembly was a special occasion as we celebrated an incredible member of our staff, Stan, who is retiring after nearly 14 years of dedicated service at the Abbey. As if that wasn’t enough, he is celebrating his 80th birthday in a few weeks!

Throughout his time here, Stan has tackled every possible task. From driving the minibuses and helping with daily maintenance, to decorating, delivering parcels, setting up the school’s Christmas trees, making endless trips to the tip and B&Q, emptying the recycling bins, and so much more—Stan has done it all.

However, it’s his work at the heart of our school—on gate duty—that stands out the most. Stan has become a beloved fixture in our community. His warm smile and friendly greetings brighten the start of everyone’s day, no matter the weather. He takes the time to speak with everyone who passes by, whether they are part of the Abbey community or not, leaving a positive impression wherever he goes.

To show our appreciation, we presented Stan with a thank-you gift from the school, along with a birthday cake and a beautiful portrait created by our talented artist-in-residence, Connell.

Stan has been the very best ambassador for our school, and we will deeply miss his welcoming smile and cheery wave each morning. We wish him all the happiness as he embarks on this well-deserved chapter of his life. Happy retirement, Stan!
