This is the first installment of our ‘Staff stories,’ giving you the chance to get to know some of us, and to find out things you may not already know with a few surprises along the way.

We start off with Kimberley Jest, Head of Philosophy and Theology.

What music do you like listening to?
Everything that moves me.

Do you have any hobbies or interests outside of school?
Painting thickly.

A fun fact about yourself or something that someone else may not know about you.
I am a black belt in Shotokan Karate.

Where did you grow up?
The Suffolk countryside: muddy docks, wheat fields, castles, beaches, woods and streams.

What animal best describes you?
A quokka.

If you were stranded on a desert island, which two items could you not live without?
A wind up radio and a fluffy throw.

Do you have a secret talent or party trick?
Yes, it’s a secret.

Rom com, sci-fi, comedy or horror etc?
Comedic psychological thriller.

What TV programme, film or box set etc did you recently enjoy?
Everything Everywhere All at once.

Who is your hero?
Sarah Williams

What is your favourite vacation and why?
Anything active in ‘the nature’, because it fills me up inside.

What was your favourite school subject?
Whatever my favourite teacher taught.

What was the last thing you read?
The Gulag Archipelago.

Would you rather cook or order takeaway?
Go out or order in.

What interested you about your subject before becoming a teacher in this field?
How long have you got?

What advice or career advice would you give your younger self?
The world is not your burden to carry; be kind to you

What’s your favourite family tradition?
Jingles, invented phrases and Franglais.

Do you have any interesting habits?
Christmas music all year round.

What is your favourite way to spend your free time?
Learning.

What did you want to be when you grew up?
Illustrator.

Are you an early bird or a night owl?
Hibernating Common Poorwill Nightjar

What’s your biggest fear?
Cult indoctrination.
