Rachel began playing the violin at the age of 3 and went on to study at the junior department of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama before reading music at Cambridge University while studying the violin. This then led to a performance diploma at the Royal Academy of Music, where she graduated as joint study violin and viola.

In demand as both a violin and a viola player she leads a busy performing schedule and has worked with many of the UK’s leading orchestras including the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Ballet Sinfonia, Royal Northern Sinfonia, London Mozart Players and Opera North amongst others. She has featured on a huge array of recordings spanning across the whole musical spectrum including classical, jazz, world and popular music and has most recently featured as a named artist on the latest Wet Wet Wet album ‘Strings Attached’ released last month.

She has toured Europe, USA and the Far East enjoying performances in some of the world’s most prestigious concert halls and venues.

As a chamber musician she was a member of the Trelawn Quartet who performed regularly in music festivals and concert series throughout the UK, and also took part in numerous education projects including workshops with the Wigmore Hall and the Cavatina Music Trust.

In 2012 Rachel co-founded the contemporary music group Trifarious Ensemble who specialise in contemporary music. Highlights have included performances at the International Festival Vitoria-Gasteiz and The Bilbao Festival, working with
the late Barbara Thompson MBE on several of her compositions for the ensemble, performing at the Union Chapel alongside Chris Farlow, Jess Gillam, Colisseum and Paraphernalia, as well as being ensemble in residence at the University of Surrey. They released the CD Russian Roulette in 2015 and are currently recording their second album of original compositions.

As a music educator Rachel enjoys teaching people of all ages and abilities and currently teaches at Kings College School, Wimbledon and St George’s School Windsor Castle, as well as The Abbey.

Rachel also works as a record producer with Horizon Music Production whose latest recording, Women’s Work for Viola: Sounds of Discovery, has been selected for consideration for the Grammys 2026.
