Spanish play by Onatti Theatre Company- Primera Cita

on

On Thursday the Upper IV and Lower V Spanish students were invited to watch a production that was entirely in Spanish. The production was called ‘La Primera Cita’ meaning The First Date and was performed by two people from Onatti. Onatti are a theatre group who are touring the UK with productions created in different languages targeted at those learning the language. It was an eye opening experience for many students, seeing just how much Spanish we were able to understand. The actors were incredible and made sure that there was no confusion on what was going on, they made it funny, understandable and best of all interactive.

The actors communicated with the audience—still in Spanish—they even got some girls up on stage! The play was a great way to be immersed in the Spanish language and really get a sense of how it’s spoken beyond the classroom. I feel like from the play I learned so many words that I wouldn’t necessarily come across in the classroom like ‘un besos’ meaning a kiss or ‘¿quieres casarte conmigo?’ meaning will you marry me? At the end of the production the actors talked about themselves and gave an insight into how the play was created and rehearsed before answering some questions. It was a truly incredible event and I look forward to other opportunities in languages at The Abbey in the future. On behalf of all the Upper IV and Lower V Spanish students thank you to the teachers and actors for an unforgettable morning.
