Schools Biathlon

on

On Saturday 27 January 14 of our U12-U14 athletes competed in the Schools Biathlon Qualifiers event in Aldershot. These athletes were all fantastic ambassadors for The Abbey; demonstrating kindness and courage; through encouraging and supporting one another, as well as pushing themselves outside of their comfort zones!

The athletes were first faced with a race on the track; in the U12 and U13 races, The Abbey dominated their heats. They had some tough competition, but this did not stop U12’s April placing 1st, with Jinxin close behind in 2nd. The U14’s also had a competitive race, with Shumeng placing 3rd.

After exerting themselves on the track, the athletes headed to the pool for their swimming heats. The venue boosted a 50m pool, meaning the U12 had just one length to swim, and the U13 and U14 competitors had two lengths to complete. There were some fantastic performances in the pool and the final results were very positive too; both U12 and U13 ‘A’ teams placed 1st and the U13 ‘B’ team placed 3rd. Special individual mentions for overall results should go to U12’s Jinxin and April, placing 1st and 3rd respectively and U14’s Shumeng for placing 2nd. However, all the athletes deserve a huge congratulations, as they all worked extremely hard!

Results released on Thursday tell us that Jinxin, April, Lily and Shumeng have qualified for the National Schools Biathlon to be held at the University of Bath in March.
