On Monday 11 November, The Abbey community came together for a moving Remembrance Day across both our Senior and Junior Schools.

Our morning began with a beautiful Senior School assembly led by our school chaplain, Dr Cuthbertson. One of our Poet Laureates, Isabella, recited an original poem that she had composed especially for the assembly. Thank you to our musicians of the day: Elva, who played the opening music for the assembly, and Emily and Isabella, who performed The Last Post to mark the two-minute silence.

At 10.45am, the Junior School gathered in the Quad for our first Remembrance Service altogether with parents and grandparents. Students from Reception to Lower III, staff, and more than 50 parents came together in a big circle to hear students recite poems, sing beautiful songs and listen to the girls play music.

A particular highlight was the creation of a special wreath made from poppies that each girl had crafted in class. Together, these handmade poppies formed a striking symbol of gratitude and reflection (despite the windy conditions)! It was incredible to hear of so many stories of grandparents who played a part in World War Two and we would warmly welcome anyone with any story to share to get in touch, as we would love the opportunity to hear more and ask questions.

As the wind rustled through the trees, the spirit of remembrance was truly felt. a reminder of the importance of pausing to honour those who have given so much.

Thank you to all who joined us and to the girls and staff who contributed to such a meaningful occasion and we look forward to holding the service each year.
