Last week saw yet another fiercely competitive Staff Karaoke Competition. Sixteen teacher acts started the week, each competing against another, with the winner (voted for by the audience) going through to the next round. Each day, Monday to Thursday, one act was picked to go through to the Finals on Friday.
Monday saw Mr Morton (& Friends) beat the Head, Mr le Fleming, as well as Mr Baker and Miss Uddin to go through.
Tuesday saw Mrs Jest and Dr Cuthbertson beat off the competition of Mr Amblin, Mme Berrow and Mrs Sikorski.
Wednesday saw Mr Gasper beat Mrs Kidd, Mrs Hart, and Miss Elliott and Miss Morris.
And Thursday saw Miss Rios beat Mr Bradley and Miss Mogio, Miss Cotterell and Ms Brunskill.

This set up a fantastic final on Friday, which was eagerly awaited by all the students. The four acts all performed their third song in front of a packed Lecture Theatre of staff and students, with two acts being voted through to the Final’s final!

Mrs Jest and Dr Cuthbertson faced off against Miss Rios in the last round, where they were randomly assigned one of two songs picked by Dr Bellamy, Deputy Headteacher.
Miss Rios was finally voted Staff Karaoke 2025 Winner after her amazing performance of Titanium, originally sung by David Guetta.

Maya, writing on behalf of the Upper V Prom Committee, said “A huge thank you to all the teachers who took part in staff karaoke to help raise money for prom. We are incredibly grateful for all your enthusiasm and confidence in making this event a success! We hope everyone enjoyed it as much as we did!”

Mr Bradley, Tutor of UVBr, who helped run the event, added some thanks; “As well as the staff acts, this event could not have happened without the support of Mr Johnson and Mr Brown setting up the equipment each day and the Upper V tutor team supporting the students on the door each day.”
Mrs Sikorski, Head of Year, added “What a fun and exciting way to spend lunch. I was terrified to sing but the students helped lift me and were so supportive and encouraging.”

Several other participants also commented …
Miss Mogio – “The staff karaoke shows the spirit of a community that would go above and beyond to support their students.”
Mrs Jest – “It’s always such fun to bring laughter to the students and see them enjoying themselves. Getting over our nerves and putting on a show is also a great way to model our school value of courage”.
Dr Tullis, Head of the Senior School, who despite appearing on stage with a Spice Girl didn’t sing in the competition, commented: “There aren’t many schools in which events like this happen! It’s lovely to see so much genuine joy being packed into a week and students and staff having so much fun together whilst raising money for a good cause. Huge thanks to Mr Bradley for his leadership”.

But the last word has to go to our winner, Miss Rios, who said “I did not think twice about signing up, what a wonderful way to support our students beyond the classroom! Sharing that moment with them, hearing their cheers, and seeing them laugh and dance is a reminder of what education is all about: it is not only about lessons; it is about connection, joy, and showing up for our students in every way we can. Now, I just do not know how to deal with all the fame!”
