Process: A Dialogue Between Pedagogy and Practice

on

We are delighted to share that Dr Jon Lockhart, who teaches in the Art Department at The Abbey School, is exhibiting his work in Process: A Dialogue Between Pedagogy and Practice at the Dead Dog Gallery, Durham.

The exhibition brings together teachers from across the country who are also practising artists. It celebrates how creativity and teaching go hand in hand — showing how working with students can inspire new artwork, and how making art can enrich the way we teach.

Dr Lockhart’s piece, titled Mapping the Penumbra, explores the idea of the “in-between” — those blurred spaces where art and everyday life meet. The word penumbra means the soft edge between shadow and light, and in his work it becomes a way of thinking about how we connect ideas, people, and experiences. Rather than trying to tidy things up or find fixed answers, Dr Lockhart celebrates the beauty of curiosity, risk and change.
