Prep Visit to Bekonscot Model Village and Railway

on

Tuesday dawned with the excited chatter of our Prep students boarding the coach for Bekonscot Model Village and Railway.

When we arrived there were gasps of, “Wow” and the mood was set for the rest of the trip. Upper Prep were finishing off their Unit of Inquiry on ‘Homes’ and Lower Prep were exploring the different materials used in the construction of houses past and present.

A very informative workshop on houses in 1930 had the students laughing about how carpets were beaten to clean them, a very old Kit Kat bar which only the wealthy could afford and the fact that there were no televisions.

We then explored the model buildings, peeping through windows and doorways and spotting characters from fields as diverse as the circus, the coal yard, the hospital, a castle, boathouse. Eventually there was a hushed silence listening to the miniature church bells. The whole day was a simply perfect learning experience!
