PaT Post Autumn and Spring Term Winners!

on

Every half term the Philosophy and Theology department sets a challenge to respond to a thought-provoking question or dilemma in (usually) under 100 words. Each half term winner has their name put forward for an opportunity to win a £20 Amazon voucher in the summer term.

Last term we set the philosophical and ethical question “You can only save your friend or the perfect clone of your friend. Does it matter who you choose?” The standard of entries was very high and in the end we chose two winners: Aanya in Lower V felt that it mattered greatly whom you save and likened the clone to a photograph of the original. No matter how perfect they might be, there would be something indefinably different about them. Aadya in Lower IV agreed that even if the clone had identical memories and actions, still it would not be the person that you shared those experiences and memories with. Both worthy winners.

In the first half of the Spring term we asked the theological question “Can God sin?” Cerinda in Lower IV won with a very concise but detailed consideration of the possibilities. It was logically structured and explained beliefs about sin and omnipotence in a balanced way, with a bold and memorable example to make the discussion more concrete. Well done!

Look out for a new PaT Post challenge this half term with a chance to win a £20 Amazon voucher.
