Organic Chemistry teaching and learning

on

In our recent chemistry lessons we have been covering organic chemistry. For us, this meant looking at alkenes, alkanes and synthetic polymers. Organic chemistry is widely important as it affects how plastics are made, how fuels are produced, how medicines are synthesised and a wide range of other uses.

To consolidate our knowledge at the end of the topic we made mind-map sheets that are now on display on the walls of the chemistry corridor to help our year with revision and to showcase our newly acquired knowledge to the rest of the school. We found this beneficial to our learning because it highlighted what we already knew whilst exposing what we felt was more challenging allowing this to be addressed in class discussion. Overall, this activity was extremely fun and enhanced our learning. We hope you enjoy reading them as much as we enjoyed making them!
