One School, One Stage: Gala Concert 2026

on

Tuesday brought the excitement (and slight chaos) of the Music department’s biggest event in the academic calendar: our Whole School Gala Concert held in Reading University’s Great Hall.

Students and staff alike spent the entirety of Tuesday rehearsing and getting their steps in marching to and from the Great Hall. All their effort culminated in a beautiful evening celebrating our musicians and their astonishing breadth of talent.

The collaboration between the Junior and Senior Schools certainly paid off in a tremendous feat including a joint concert band, joint orchestra and two joint choirs which were two pinnacles of the event. The first half finished with a heart-stirring joint rendition of ‘Don’t Stop the Music’ by Jay Althouse. The glorious concert finale consisted of the choir surrounding the audience with the concert band accompanying them for Barry Manilow’s ‘One Voice’ – which started with no lights for ‘one voice singing in the darkness!’

A huge congratulations and thank you to the amazing teams in the Music departments for putting together this event, as well as the students whose hard work and effort made the concert possible. A large thanks goes to the audience who came to celebrate our students with us.

It was amazing to see the product of all the hard work that the students and staff had been putting in since September – what a triumph!
