Mr Malafronte, teacher of guitar at The Abbey, has just released his new album featuring the works of composer Alexandre Tansman with the label Dux. The album was released on May the 16th and is available on all major streaming platforms. Tansman was a globally recognised Polish composer, pianist and conductor. His friendship with the Spanish guitarist Andrés Segovia inspired him to compose many works for the guitar that have gone on to become important parts of the guitar repertoire.

The album title ‘In Modo Polonico’ simply means in the Polish way and is taken from one of the works within the album titled Suite in Modo Polonico. Tansman led a fascinating life that included receiving honours from Mahatma Ghandi and Emperor Hirohito of Japan after embarking on a world tour. He fled Europe to escape Nazi Germany thanks to the help of his friend Charlie Chaplin, who helped him procure a visa to move to the US. His scoring of the music in the film Paris Underground earned him an Oscar nomination for Best Music at the 1946 Academy Awards. Mr Malafronte recorded In Modo Polonico in 2024.
