National Girls’ Chess Championships Finals

on

On Saturday 28 March, we left for St Catherine’s, Bramley, to play in the ECF National schools chess championships Finals. This year we were able to qualify 2 teams for the Finals which was quite an achievement! We competed against all 9 other schools in the finals (including having both The Abbey teams playing against each other!). We played 9 rounds of matches over the Saturday and Sunday and the A team (Sameera, Eshitha, Oishani) came 6th and the B team (Shree and Vicky), who had to play the whole tournament with 1 less player due to having a last-minute drop out, came 9th. Special mention should go to Sameera for getting 7.5 out of 9 points on board 1 of the A team which is an impressive achievement! Overall, the tournament was an enjoyable experience and we would like to thank Mr Chopra for staying and supporting us over the weekend. We would also like to thank Mr Hills, who had organised the trip but was unable to attend as he was already committed to another trip. We would also like to thank him for organising and attending these events for us for the last 7 years that I have been in the school. They have been great fun!
