The Lower V trip to the University of Oxford open day on 1 July offered an inspiring glimpse into one of the UK’s most historic academic institutions. Between the winding streets and 39 colleges, we quickly discovered that Oxford is a fascinating place as well as a world-leading university. Throughout the day, we explored different parts of the city where the colleges are located and gained valuable insights into student life.

One of the most valuable parts of the visit was learning about the university application process and the distinctive tutorial system. This was especially interesting when visiting the Schwarzman Centre for Modern Languages, where we gained a better understanding of the opportunities available to students studying languages. We also had the chance to be guided around St Peter’s College by enthusiastic students, whose advice and personal experiences made the visit especially engaging and informative.

As well as learning about university life, the trip encouraged us to reflect on our own ambitions and future goals. It showed us the importance of making the most of the opportunities available to us throughout our education. Seeing the colleges, libraries and study spaces helped us imagine what life at university could be like and inspired my friends and I to aim high.

Overall, the Oxford trip was both intriguing and motivating. It provided a deeper understanding of university life and encouraged us to think more carefully about our own academic journeys. It was an enjoyable and memorable experience that gave us valuable knowledge, greater confidence and plenty of inspiration for the future.
