This week we went on a trip to Bread Ahead Bakery and Borough Market in London. It was a really fun and interesting experience because we got to learn how to make delicious Italian breads and explore one of London’s most famous food markets.
At Bread Ahead Bakery, we took part in an Italian bread baking class. First, the baker explained how to make the dough and showed us the different ingredients that are used and what they do in the bread. This information will be good to use in our NEA1 coursework. Then we made and shaped the dough ourselves and added toppings such as herbs and olive oil. While the focaccia was proving we made our own grissini, a crisp bread covered with chilli flakes and salt that keeps for weeks as there is little water in it. That is, unless it is enjoyed before then!

After baking, the focaccia smelled delicious. It was exciting to learn new baking skills and make our own bread from scratch. Making the focaccia inspired me to try baking more bread at home because I realised how enjoyable and easy it can be. Both of these breads could be great to make for my NEA2 coursework next year as they are quick to make, show a great range of skills between them and are absolutely delicious.

After the class, we visited Borough Market. The market was busy and full of different stalls selling food from all around the world. There were fresh fruit and vegetables, fish and live lobsters, pastries, cheeses, street food and many other interesting things to see. Walking around the market was enjoyable because there was so much variety and a lively atmosphere. We were delighted by the displays of fresh food and the huge variety of products available. We enjoyed the tacos for lunch and were very impressed with the wonderful flavour!

Overall, the trip was an unforgettable experience. We learned valuable baking skills, tasted delicious food, and enjoyed spending time together. Visiting Bread Ahead Bakery and Borough Market was a wonderful opportunity.
