Lower IV Leadership Conference

on

The Lower IV took part in three events across three days to build their leadership and communication skills.

On Monday 23 June, in a joint event with Reading School, they listened to advice on what leadership is, different leadership styles, and how to adapt their leadership style to different situations. There was then a Q&A with Ria Kalsi, an alumna who founded a business shortly after leaving university. Ria spoke about the urgent need for good leadership, the tips which had most helped her, and the wisdom of asking for help. The students were then given a series of difficult problems and asked to find solutions in mixed groups. There were some wonderful ideas on how to solve climate change, or what facility we could build to improve both schools, or what Reading’s newest slogan should be.

On Tuesday 24 June, we walked to the Junior School to take part in team challenges with Upper II students in house groups. The competition was fierce as students drew circles while blindfolded, designed socials with eclectic objects and balanced books on structures of newspaper and magazines.

Finally, on Wednesday 25 June, the Lower IV met with the Lower VI to discuss the opportunities they could take now to improve the school and develop their skills. While conversation was initially hesitant, it was great to see so many students talking together and giving advice or ideas.

The Lower IV threw themselves into all the events with enthusiasm and determination. I look forward to reading about the results of their leadership activities in next academic year’s IPortfolios.
