Lower III World War II Day

on

To conclude Lower III’s History topic on World War II, the year group experienced a ‘day in the life’ of an evacuee. Their day began with a surprise air raid siren, leading them to be evacuated to ‘a village in the countryside.’ Throughout their day they learned weaving skills (which they would have needed during the ‘Make Do and Mend’ movement). They also heard about the very important work that Alan Turing did and became a code breaker themselves and working together to ‘escape the room!’ As well as this, they baked scones, stamping their ration books as they collected their ingredients. Finally they learned some songs such as ‘We’ll Meet Again’ and ‘The White Cliffs of Dover’ and then experienced a World War II lesson with some particularly strict World War II teachers!
