Artist in Residence: Kate Lockhart

We are delighted to share an update from one of our Artists in Residence, Kate Lockhart, who has quickly become a valued part of The Abbey’s creative community. Kate has spoken about how much she is enjoying her time in the Art Department, particularly the opportunity to work closely with our students and staff as they explore ideas together in the studio.

Alongside supporting lessons, Kate is developing a new series of paintings inspired by her walks along the Berkshire stretch of the River Thames. These works capture the shifting light, colour and atmosphere of the riverbanks and reflect her deep connection to the local landscape.

This growing body of work will be exhibited as part of the Whiteknights Studio Trail 2026, now in its 26th year and taking place on 13–14 June 2026. Students are already enjoying seeing her ideas evolve, gaining a rare insight into the working process of a practising artist.

We look forward to following Kate’s progress over the coming months and celebrating her contribution to the Whiteknights Trail this summer.
