Interview with Sir Tony Blair

On Thursday 22 June, I travelled into London to interview Sir Tony Blair for my EPQ. Sir Tony was the UK’s Prime Minister between 1997 and 2007 and now has his own organisation called the ‘Tony Blair Institute for Global Change’. The institute comes up with ideas for governments to improve their public services and also helps a lot of African countries with their development needs.

My EPQ is investigating how the Iraq war affected UK and global politics, because I’m interested in studying international relations at University next year. I spent a lot of time preparing my questions for the interview, to steady my nerves but also because I know how unusual it is for someone like me to interview him, so I wanted to get it right. He gave very clear and detailed answers which will help a lot with my EPQ. We discussed the consequences for the UK of the Iraq War and much more including Russia and Ukraine, China and Taiwan and Brexit.

He was really easy to talk to and made me very welcome, as did his team who also took time out to chat to me about their roles. It’s a huge organisation with a real ‘buzz’ about it.  The interview and experience was amazing.
