It was standing room only for the final Interludes Recital of term which showcased a bumper crop of musicians!
The Inimicos String Ensemble opened the occasion with a wonderful performance of Hedwig’s Theme, demonstrating an array of interesting techniques on their instruments to create a suitably mysterious and magical atmosphere.
Elen and Eleanor then performed a piece each from their exam repertoire as practice for the larger arena of the exam room next week, both conveying the music beautifully to the captive audience.
More sensational string playing followed from Haylen, Shumeng and another exam piece from Poppy. Having played earlier in the term, Jo returned to deliver another accomplished performance on the piano and Zara, in turn, sang a moving rendition of The Virgin’s Slumber Song in German.
We finally turned our attention to the season and finished with two Christmas items, one performed energetically on the violin by Tamara and then a specially arranged version of Jingle Bells on an eclectic mix of instruments, enthusiastically performed by the music department. Amelia was the honorary staff member in this ensemble, ensuring that the chugging rhythm on her bass clarinet kept the exhausted members of the department going and Mr. Terry was the star of the show on his melodica!
Tamara joined to play the obligatory bells and the audience – after a little encouragement – joined in song to bring the term to a celebratory end. Huge thanks must be extended to Zara for acting as MC on this occasion and doing an outstanding job!
