Ellie and Emily opened the Recital with a duet of “A Whole New World” on the flute and saxophone respectively, blending lyrical lines and the different timbres of the two instruments beautifully. Ellanya then performed one of her Grade VIII piano pieces by the very popular Joe Hisaishi, playing the music very sensitively and with great musicality. Lerong followed, sharing her talents on the cello and then later in the programme on the piano, both performances being equally impressive. Margaret stunned the audience by playing a waltz on the piano by Schubert from memory, conveying its dance-like quality and beautiful melody very well. Emily then introduced a piece by Mozart on the viola; it was wonderful to hear this instrument played in a solo setting – and by a student who is well-known for her saxophone performances but who very kindly pushed herself out of her comfort zone to play on her second instrument! The Recital concluded with two more items: another cello solo, “Funeral March” by Zixuan, was accompanied by Mrs Petit-Sibley” and a harp and cello duet with Inaaya, a fabulous way to end the Interludes Recital Series of 2025/26. Huge thanks must be extended to the music staff who have helped prepare, encourage, support, attend and accompany our students throughout the year and to the regular members of the audience who have so generously supported our musicians. Please join us again in September!
