We are pleased to share that Dr Jon Lockhart from our Art Department has been recognised at the 2026 NSEAD Awards, receiving a Highly Commended distinction for his contribution to art and design education. This national award highlights individuals and schools who demonstrate thoughtful innovation, strong practice and a commitment to enriching creative learning.

The judging panel praised Dr Lockhart’s ability to connect contemporary youth culture with artistic exploration, noting in particular how he uses students’ interest in gaming as a meaningful entry point into making and creative thinking. The panel further commended his willingness to share resources with the wider education community, supporting collaboration and professional generosity across the sector. They also acknowledged the way his projects balance curriculum expectations with opportunities for students’ individuality and creativity to develop.


Dr Lockhart recently attended the NSEAD Summer Gathering at The National Gallery, where the announcement was formally shared.
