Independent Girls’ School of the Year

At the wonderful Independent Schools of the Year 2024 awards ceremony in London last night, The Abbey was named Independent Girls’ School of the Year 2024. The Chair of Judges, Dr Helen Wright, was effusive in her praise. She said that judges were unanimous; that The Abbey is a bold and outward-looking school that does good in the world and achieves outstanding outcomes; and that everything The Abbey does is full of joy.

Will le Fleming, Head of The Abbey commented, “We are so pleased about the recognition the school has received over recent years. We were shortlisted for two years in a row for the best prep school in the country by the TES, in 2023 and 2024. We won the Pride of Reading School award and Independent School of the Year for Sporting Achievement in 2023 and Muddy Stiletto’s Award for Sporting Passion in 2024.

“This award takes that recognition to the next level. It is the pre-eminent national award in girls’ education, open to every independent school in the country. It is the highest accolade we could have received.

“We know how important it is, now more than ever, to provide outstanding value to every student and every family. There could be no warmer, finer nor more deserved accolade for the tireless work of every single member of staff across this wonderful school.”
