In December, Jessica Brauner, an Abbey alumna, gave an inspiring art workshop as part of the Humanities Festival.

During the first half of the workshop, we learned about her education and work experiences such as her time at University of the Arts London and Jelly, an arts charity based in Reading. It was interesting to see that the majority of her work originated from her love of Shakespeare’s play, The Tempest, and how studying it at secondary school greatly influenced her choice to later use it in career.
In the second half of the session, we were provided with resources such as newspapers and magazines in order to create collages inspired by Jessica’s work. My peers and I really enjoyed this aspect of the workshop as we thought it was a great opportunity to combine our previous ideas with those different to ours, ultimately broadening our horizons.

I found Jessica’s use of multimedia intriguing, and as a GCSE art student it is very important to experience events like these where we look at other artist’s work that can inspire us and improve our own work.
