Hockey World Cup Qualifiers in India

on

Miss Tyler in the PE Department has just travelled to Hyderabad, India with the Welsh Senior Womens Hockey team for the World Cup Qualifiers as Team Manager.

The team competed against Scotland, Uruguay and India in the group stages. They then played Korea who they had a fantastic game against and won. They had a couple of narrow losses throughout the tournament which meant we could not qualify for the World Cup unfortunately, however the team finished higher ranked in the world than when they started the tournament which is brilliant.

I have 2 highlights from my trip away. The first being singing the Welsh National Anthem on TV, it was a surreal feeling. The second highlight was experiencing playing India on their home turf. There was a light show, fireworks, cheerleaders and a huge crowd so the atmosphere was something I will never forgot.

The whole trip was an incredible experience, where I learnt so much. Having worked at U18 International level previously it was great to see how things work at Senior International level as well which has no doubt helped me become a better manager, coach and player.
