Girls Go Gold

The Abbey had a fantastic day at Sherborne School who hosted Girls Go Gold for 2024!

The day kicked off with a high-energy wake and shake led by Laura Sugar MBE and Heather Fell OLY, which brought positivity and excitement from the very start.

Seeing so many schools coming together, warming up, and building connections was amazing. Claire Balding gave an excellent welcome speech, sharing her experiences growing up around a variety of sports and the challenges she faced with team selection.

Then, the students headed off to their selected sports to have masterclass sessions followed by a variety of key talks from guest speakers, including Sue Anstiss MBE sharing ‘The Unstoppable Rise of Women’s Sport’. The students expressed their joy at attending, with one student sharing ‘the trip was amazing!

We both had so much fun and loved chatting with the other schools and trying new sports. Although neither of us were experts at cricket, we still really enjoyed it as we learnt lots of interesting new skills!’
