Today I was very proud to teach a lesson. I lead a group of my peers to produce a delicious chicken and mushroom risotto. Mrs Mair and I planned the session throughout this term, choosing the recipe and thinking how to help the group get the most from the lesson.

First, I demonstrated the recipe, teaching everyone about the function and purpose of the ingredients, the origin of risotto and the different arborio rice that is available. I then asked them questions to help them learn and remember the information as well as asking how they would make the dish healthier and ideas for different flavours, which we have been considering this term. I sent the group to begin their dishes and went around to each student showing them how to make their cutting quicker and their work more efficient. I guided the group on achieving their dishes.
I love Food and Nutrition lessons and appreciated the chance to lead in the subject in which I feel really confident. It was a success! Everyone enjoyed the lesson and the information I gave them. They were really happy to make the delicious risotto and how it tasted (really good!).

In future, I would work out timings more accurately and consider that not everyone has the same ingredients as I found some people’s work cooked quickly, while others took more time.
I really enjoyed the session and the satisfaction of seeing everyone enjoying the lesson safely and with a delicious meal ready to take home.
