On Tuesday 23 June, our Abbey School classics students went to see a fabulous performance of Medea at Bradfield College. The performance was in an open air Greek theatre, which really enhanced the experience. The performers were very professional, and conducted themselves with loud, clear voices, so we were engrossed in the drama. The chorus was performed entirely in Ancient Greek, and we even understood some of it! Despite the heat and the stone seats, we had a brilliant time.

Afterwards, we attended a talk entitled “Why don’t we hate Medea more?” We were provided with some background information about the myth, and then given a chance to think about what Euripides might have intended to convey to the men of Athens – treat your wives better, or else… It was an insightful talk, full of amusing comments and points for reflection.

Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our day and were treated to a fantastic lunch by the College.
