On Sunday, October 13, 14 of The Abbey Senior School chess players competed in the ECF Rapidplay Chess tournament at Eton College.
The Abbey A team consisted of Shree, Csilla, Radha, Eshitha, Anoushka, and Ana. They won four matches out of five and scored 16.5 points from 24, including exceptional performances from Shree and Eshitha, who won 5 out of 5 and 4 out of 5 of their matches, respectively. The Abbey finished 11th out of 32 teams – a very pleasing result in such a tough event.
The Abbey B team, comprising of younger and less experienced players, enthusiastically participated in the tournament. For many of them, it was their first experience in a high-level chess tournament.
Despite their inexperience, they showed great potential and gained valuable experience, which will undoubtedly help them in future competitions. Special mention should go to Oishani in Upper III who won 4 out of her 5 matches and Aanya in Upper IV who won 3 of her matches.
Their participation highlights the promising talent at The Abbey School, with a bright future ahead for these emerging players.
