On Wednesday, the Lower VI Business/Philosophy students went to Leighton Park School, a few minutes up the road, for the inaugural Business Ethics Fair. The event, run by Ethical Reading, was an opportunity for students who study Business or Ethics to learn more about the decision-making employed in the corporate world with an emphasis on the environment and workplace diversity.
I think for me, the most interesting part of the day was being able to ask questions to representatives from big companies such as Natwest, how they were tackling the climate problem. It was pleasantly surprising to hear all of the ways that they are becoming more conscious about where they invest our money and about introducing greener investments.
We also had the opportunity to go into break out rooms with students from other schools and people who work in many different sectors from Law to Finance to tackle ethical dilemmas hands on. It was fascinating to see the topics that we learn about in lessons such as moral decision-making and profit ethics employed in real life situations such as the recent Lionel Messi Court case or the topic of Akshata Murthy.
Overall, it was a great opportunity to meet other people our age and discuss ever-prevalent issues and the real life applications of business ethics.
