British Science Week in Before and After School Care

on

Last week in Before and After School Care, we joined in with the British Science Week fun by offering a different science activity each day alongside our normal games, toys and crafts.

On Monday, the children used straws to blow bubbles in a paint and washing up liquid mixture before stamping paper onto the bubbles to create colourful artwork. On Tuesday they drew fish and jellyfish onto the backs of spoons with whiteboard pens and slowly lowered them into the water and watched as their creations floated off the spoon and around the bowl! Wednesday was a windy day and we definitely made the most of it. They decorated paper strips before making them into hoop paper planes with straws which were then flown around the astro. They really enjoyed thinking about how they threw them and how the wind would imapact their trajectory. On Thursday, chromatography flowers were made by colouring on coffee filters before leaving the ends in water, watching as it slowly crept up the paper and dispersed the ink up the filter, bleeding the colours together resulting in beautiful, bright flowers. We also got the den building kit out and a big castle was made, complete with a sign and a flag! On Friday, we ended the week by making pipe cleaner flowers for Mother’s Day.

Seeing the children so invested in all of the different science activities was amazing to see and we loved everyone’s creativity!
