Bread Making

on

For the past two lessons we have been learning about the role of each ingredient in bread, how to make bread and what is needed to do so.

We learned how to knead dough and determine when it is done. You can determine whether the gluten in the dough is well-developed by looking at whether it forms a lovely web. We also learned that yeast requires warm water – neither too hot nor too cold, to be activated as well as food such as sugar.

You don’t want to kill the yeast or not activate it as you need it in order for the bread dough to rise. This links back to our previous lesson as we were learning about the conditions for yeast to grow and in this lesson we were creating the conditions.

In addition, we had to knead the bread using the skills we were taught last week and check for the web.  We really enjoyed our lessons.
