On Wednesday the Lower V Food and Nutrition students went to London to visit the World famous bakery Bread Ahead in London.
Travelling by coach we arrived and got to work straight away making delicious focaccia bread and grissini under the guidance of their professional bakers. There was plenty of room for everyone as we learned the techniques, using wonderful fresh yeast and herbs to complete our work. While the bread baked we took a guided tour of the bakery and saw their delicious doughnuts being made. We saw their best seller, a creme brulee doughnut, made and finished with everyone trying the delicious product for themselves. It was absolutely amazing and lived up to all of the accolades before heading back inside to collect our breads.
We then went to The Golden Hinde and had lunch in the dry dock. The guided tour of the replica ship was both enlightening and amusing with their enthusiastic guide bringing the history to life. He was very thorough and explained how the ship had not only circumnavigated the globe, but also was part of the force that chased the Spanish Amada from Britain in Elizabethan times. Our students were intrigued about how a ship so small could sail so far!
The students had an opportunity to walk around the wonderful Borough market and try different foods, cheeses, oils, fish, meat and fruit and vegetables from around the world. Our Foodie Food students were in their element!
After a long day we travelled back to school, tired but happy.
