This week we held the first session of Biology Club for the year 7 and 8 students. We organised this club to spark enthusiasm for biology amongst the younger years and do some exciting experiments that we thought would be fun. The students were given agar plates and swabs to collect bacteria from places where they thought it would grow. They also pressed their fingers onto another agar plate before and after washing their hands with soap to see how much bacteria they had on them as well as finding out if antibacterial soap really could kill “99.99% of bacteria.” Next week we will take the bacteria out of the incubator and see how much they have grown as well as doing another experiment which could involve balloons and fingerprints!
