Badminton in Birmingham!

on

Our Sports Scholars and Badminton players recently had the incredible opportunity to attend the YONEX All England Badminton Championships in Birmingham – one of the most prestigious tournaments in the world.

Throughout the day, students watched elite international athletes compete in singles, doubles, and mixed doubles matches. The standard of play was nothing short of phenomenal, with lightning-fast rallies, breathtaking precision and displays of athleticism that left the group in awe!

Witnessing world class players perform on such a stage gave our students a first hand look at the dedication, focus, and competitive spirit required to reach the top levels of sport. Many spoke about how inspiring it was to see their sporting idols in action, motivating them to work even harder in their own training and competition.

We are lucky enough to have two students, Anushka (Upper V) and Tranthini (Upper VI) who are regularly performing at the top of their game in Badminton by representing England. They were present on the trip and were educating everybody in between the matches about the players rankings, tactics and previous results, which was highly beneficial. Despite being in different year groups, they are great friends and brilliant role models for our younger students.

The PE department are looking forward to growing Badminton next year in both the curriculum and co-curricular programme.
