Arch Psychology

Understanding memory and the brain is the latest learning partnership as part of The Abbey’s ARCH programme. Head of Psychology and UK Memory Champion, James Paterson, has led a year-long pilot working with students of The Abbey and Bulmershe Schools to explore how to enhance memory and to fuel it effectively.

The Memory Project culminated in a gala evening for students to showcase the techniques they have been learning, including successfully teaching the audience on how to memorise the first 16 digits of Pi! Two keynote speakers joined from the University of Reading – Professor Philip Beaman is an expert in short-term and working memory and Professor Claire Williams spoke about her work to explore how a good diet can benefit your brain as well as your body. Suffice to say, the two-hundred strong audience will be adding blueberries to the shopping list from now on!
