The Abbey School library now has a dedicated section, proudly displaying the books of our published alumnae.
On World Book Day we invited our alumnae authors to celebrate this with us and we were delighted to be joined by such a fantastic range of fiction and non-fiction writers.

It was an honour to have our Chair of Governors, Liz Harrison, cut the ribbon to declare the new bookshelf open!
It was indeed Mrs Harrison’s idea to proudly showcase our alumnae’s work with their own section and it was wonderful to see this idea come to fruition.

The library certainly wasn’t quiet on this occasion, as it came alive with the writers sharing stories over coffee and cake. Former English teacher, Miss Packer, and her close attention to grammar was an entertaining recurring theme. Something that they agreed they are grateful for now, although maybe not at the time!

Dr Tullis gave a warm welcome to our alumnae, reinforcing how wonderful it was to have them return to see their work in pride of place at the school where they were taught – now on display to inspire the next generation.
We were so grateful that, after the opportunity to have a tour of the school and reminisce, some of the authors stayed on for a careers drop in session for students.
Abbey students were able to come along to the library at lunchtime and talk to the writers about their career journeys, where they get their inspiration from and advice on becoming a writer themselves.
By the end of the morning the alumnae left as equally inspired as the students, impressed at how engaged they were and by what insightful questions they had asked.
We are so proud of our published alumnae, grateful that they gave up their time to inspire current students and delighted that their work is now proudly displayed in our library.
