What an ‘explosive talk’! Literally! A huge thanks to Professor Jackie Akhavan for enlightening our Abbey community on all things explosives – past, present, and future.

Professor Jackie Akhavan introduced the various types of explosions and explained the conditions under which a chemical reaction becomes an explosive. She explored the inputs to initiate the explosive and the subsequent outputs. In looking at the past, she covered explosive mixtures and then introduced the concept of molecular explosives which are used today. Looking into the future, she highlighted current research activities and considered the role of explosives in the modern world.
