Full Marks in Bebras

on

Eight Abbey students, from both the Senior and Junior Schools, are celebrating this week after gaining full marks in their respective age categories in the Bebras Challenge. You may recall the article a couple of weeks ago about the Bebras Challenge, an international computational thinking competition, which all Computer Scientists across both the Senior and Junior School take part in.

Bebras released the scores this week. Five students achieved the full 220 out of 220 on the Juniors Bebras Challenge – three from Upper III at the Senior School and two from Lower III at the Junior School. A further three students from the Junior School achieved the maximum 164 marks in the Castors age category for 8 – 10 year olds.

James Stevens, Head of Computing at the Junior School, was elated; “All our students have performed terrifically well in this international computing competition, but these results are testament to the hard work students put in year on year to build up outstanding computational skills.”

Robert Bradley, Head of Computer Science at the Senior School, was likewise full of praise; “This is an amazing achievement. The Bebras Challenge is a challenging, timed assessment deliberately designed to challenge all students. To complete all the tasks is hard work. To complete them all correctly is an astonishing achievement, showing excellent levels of computational thinking skill.”

“To achieve this level in the first term of Upper III is a testament to the hard work these students have shown. Well done Esme, Lara and Darcey!”

Dr Dawn Bellamy, Deputy Head at the Senior School, is impressed by the levels of commitment shown across all age groups: ‘Congratulations to all who participated in the challenge, developing important skills and applying their computational thinking beyond the curriculum.’

Bebras release the grading each student achieved, including the Gold Certifications indicating being in the top 10% in the country, on Friday. We will report next week about how many of our amazing students achieved this high standard.
