The Abbey Junior School were delighted to welcome members of the Fire Service from Wokingham Road Fire Station to school this week – Johnny, Ty, Lucy and Charlotte – who spent the morning teaching Upper II all about fire safety.

The visit began with an engaging presentation where the students learned about common fire hazards in the home, the importance of having working smoke alarms, and what to do in the event of a fire. The Fire Service also explained how to call 999 and clearly report a fire, helping the students understand how to stay calm and give important information in an emergency.

After the presentation, we went outside for an exciting tour of the fire engine. The students loved seeing the different pieces of equipment used by firefighters for tackling fires, responding to car crashes, and even rescuing animals. There were lots of curious questions and plenty of excitement!
To finish the visit, the students were invited to sit in the back seats of the fire engine, where they learned about how firefighters get ready for an emergency call and what happens when they are on their way to help others.

To say thank you, we shared some homemade brownies as a small gesture of appreciation to the whole team for the important work they do in our local community.

It was a fantastic and informative visit, and we would like to say a big thank you to Johnny, Ty, Lucy and Charlotte from Wokingham Road Fire Station for taking the time to visit our school and teach us such important life-saving information.
