A Sparkling Season in the Chemistry Department

on

The Chemistry Department is sparkling with creativity this festive season, thanks to our wonderful technician and a range of imaginative decorations designed to bring science to life in a cheerful and engaging way. At the centre of the display stands our proudly crafted “chemisTREE”, a Christmas tree with a scientific twist. Instead of traditional ornaments, the tree features conical flasks filled with colourful solutions that glow vibrantly under the lab lights, representing the beauty and wonder of chemistry. Adding to the excitement is our mischievous Naughty Elf, who appears in a new chemistry-themed scene each day. His daily antics have quickly become a favourite among students and staff. Earlier this week, he was spotted melting a snowman using a Bunsen burner. On another day, he carried out a playful distillation of festive sprinkles, turning a classic experiment into a whimsical holiday moment. Today, he has taken over our chromatography station, leaving colourful streaks and playful chaos across the filter papers as he “experiments” with separating holiday colours. These interactive decorations not only brighten the corridors but also spark curiosity and conversations about scientific methods and equipment. Through this fun blend of learning and festivity, the department hopes to inspire students to see chemistry as both exciting and accessible, proving that science and seasonal spirit make a perfect combination.
