A Level Creative Arts Trip to New York

on

In October 2025, students from The Abbey Art and Drama departments enjoyed an exhilarating six-day trip to New York City, immersing themselves in culture, creativity, and theatre.

The adventure began at the Museum of Broadway, quickly a favourite. Emily called it “a journey through the history of New York’s theatre scene,” highlighting the iconic costumes and digital displays. Amy loved seeing costumes from Hamilton and Six, adding that the live performance of Chicago later in the week “inspired my upcoming A Level coursework.” The group also soaked up the buzz of Times Square and enjoyed singing along with the waitstaff at Ellen’s Stardust Diner—an unforgettable taste of Broadway’s energy.

On day two we explored the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, the 9/11 Memorial, and the High Line. Cindy found the elevated parkway unforgettable, enjoying “the NYC skyline from a new perspective, as well as the street art pieces that encompass the history and culture of New York.” Early-morning walks through Central Park were “enchanting,” she added.

Day three included a backstage tour of Radio City Music Hall, exploring creative districts and shops, and an evening on Broadway watching Chicago. Day four brought a TV and film locations tour, a visit to the Empire State Building, and an afternoon at the Guggenheim Museum. Ellie joined a comic book workshop inside Frank Lloyd Wright’s spiral gallery, learning about character design, panelling, and composition. She called it a highlight, praising “the lovely atmosphere” and the chance to connect with other young creatives.

Architecture was a recurring theme. Fenella loved Grand Central Station: “I loved the architecture and the detailed paintings inside. Spending the trip with friends who share the same interests made it even more special.”

The final day at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) showcased world-famous works. Agnes found Monet’s Water Lilies “powerful,” while Cindy called seeing the original paintings up close “surreal.”

The trip blended theatre, culture, and artistic discovery. From Broadway and Times Square to masterpieces and skyscrapers, every day sparked curiosity, creativity, and collaboration. The students made the trip so much fun and truly brought it to life, returning home buzzing with ideas and ready to channel their experiences into their studies, artistic projects and future performances.
